Meet Donaldo! Alchemie's new Data Scientist
What is your favorite thing about your career?
My favorite thing about being a data scientist is probably just how engaging the problems are. I'd probably relate it to playing a puzzle-solving video game, where each day you are either setting up the puzzles (wrangling data) or solving the puzzles (drawing data insights and modeling).
What did you want to be when you were small?
When I was younger I wanted to be a philosophy teacher. I always found Greek philosophy to be tremendously useful to how I lived my life and thought I had interesting perspectives on the ideas of Plato and stoicism. I think as I got into university, it seemed that philosophy was less about practicality and more about abstractions that I wasn't as interested in.
How did your professional journey take you to Alchemie?
I found Alchemie particularly interesting because most of my learning has been done outside of conventional learning methods. I've learned mostly through YouTube videos, podcasts, learning games and just going down rabbit holes of things that interest me. I liked that Alchemie was working on making traditional education more engaging and personalized.
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
I probably couldn't go a single day without some kind of intellectual/competitive stimulation. Every day I either play a video game/sport that I'm competing to get better at with my friends, or read/listen to something involving philosophy, economics, or technology that gets me thinking about the future.
